My path in life has been direct
1.
Taking classes in high school that were about the sciences piqued my interest in healthcare.
2.
I had two cousins that were nurse that I looked up to. They were mentors along my way.
3.
I first chose a school to attend that had a hospital program. I got lots of experience and exposure to the hospital environment but I did want a 4 year degree.
4.
After graduating from the hospital program I went to a university to get my Bachelors of Science degree.
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Friends:
You want to be a nurse? It is long hours and you have to wipe people’s bottoms.
How I responded:
Yes it is long hours and I do wipe people’s bottoms but it is when they are at a time of greatest need. I have the privilege of making their lives better by helping them when they are at their worst moments.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
When my children were young it was difficult to find daycare providers that would be available at the early hours I needed to go to work. Good friends helped with taking my children when I needed to leave to work before the daycare was open.
