Life & Career Milestones
My path in life has been direct
1.
I was always a theatrical kid. Growing up, I wanted a Borghese makeup kit more than anything.
2.
I had an “Aha!” moment while doing makeup and hair in salons and went to learn special effects makeup.
3.
I started doing makeup for films in the early 90s while still in school.
4.
I worked in film for a while until I got a chance to tour with Janet Jackson in 1998.
5.
I started my own makeup company.
6.
I got a call to work with Pink and ended up touring with her on and off for 14 years.
7.
I’ve also had the opportunity to tour with other artists such as Tina Turner, Katy Perry, Bruce Springsteen, and Cher.
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Society in general:
How are you going to balance life on tour?
How I responded:
This job comes with long hours of traveling. Sometimes it’s only 2-3 hours of sleep and you’re living in a bus with 12 different people. Suddenly you're in a whole different time zone going to work and then you’re off flying again, so there’s a lot of jet lag and acclimating. The one thing that is great is that you’re a family. They know everything about you, even what you order for breakfast. Everyone works together and hangs out- and you’re all seeing the world!
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
Being away from my daughter is probably the hardest part of the job. I have a great ex-husband who was so helpful when she was younger and I was on the road. When she would travel with me, the whole tour group would help out. It takes a village.
