How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Society in general:
I was told by a couple of managers and even friends early on in my career that I was too quiet, shy, and even too nice to be a manger or a leader and I should stick with being in an individual contributor role. This ended up being a key motivator for me.
How I responded:
Hearing these comments seemed to ignite a fire within me to prove to myself that I can and will be a leader despite how I was perceived. I now live by 4 key themes: 1. Believe in yourself and those around you 2. Find inspiration and be inspirational 3- embrace change And ignite change and 4- finally be brave in all facets, regardless of what people say. When you are on the cusp of being uncomfortable you are in a position to surmount the odds and conquer any obstacle in your way.
