Life & Career Milestones

My path in life took a while to figure out

  • 1.

Opted not to pursue a PhD in mathematics, but explore the corporate world.

  • 2.

Spent way too many years as a Chief of Staff (with no upward movement in sight).

  • 3.

Accepted a skills pivot assignment in the technical project management arena. I was scared to death!

  • 4.

Decided to be open to change and embrace new learnings. I absolutely love my new position.

Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Teachers:

You should be an education major; black girls don't major in pure mathematics. I've never had 'one of you' in my class. You should really consider dropping this course. Why would you want to attend an HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities)?

  • How I responded:

Be true to yourself. Know you and know your potential self-worth. Hear the discouragement, understand why it hurts and repair the wound. You will never be able to move past the injury until you acknowledge and repair it.
