Defining Moments

How I responded to discouragement

  • THE NOISE

    Messages from Peers:

It would be too difficult to successfully transition from the military to the private sector.

  • How I responded:

Do not assume the skills and experience you've gained in one industry are not transferrable. I can personally attest that the majority of the skills that I've needed to succeed throughout my career in the private sector, I learned during my nearly 10 years in the United States Air Force. In addition, I learned that its ok to ask for help, therefore, don't be afraid to lean on your personal and professional network for guidance.

Experiences and challenges that shaped me

  • Transitioning from the military to the private sector was challenging because I wasn't sure if I would able to relate to people who don't understand what military personnel have experienced. Working for a military friendly company made a difference.
