My path in life took a while to figure out
1.
Graduated high school on time at 18 (which I hated...).
2.
Survived a difficult marriage; first husband died two weeks before my son turned 4.
3.
Attended and graduated with my BA (which I also hated).
4.
Moved back to the state of my birth and remarried, during which time I started my doctoral journey (and loved it!)
5.
Attended and graduated with my EdM (yep, hated that too).
6.
Had an opportunity to move cross country for an employment opportunity; worked there for six years until the contract ended
7.
Lost my father in a car accident whilst I was pregnant.
8.
Became a caregiver for my son (until he moved into a semi-independent living home) and second husband (until he died), during which time I started working online exclusively
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Peers:
As an adjunct who works online (as compared to those who work on-ground in a singular, full-time capacity), I must be 'cobbling together' work 'just to survive'.
How I responded:
Firstly, it made me angry to hear something like this from a colleague I respected. I believe the person was a bit jealous because I am able to do what I want with my schedule, when I want to (for the most part!). I had the freedom to be a caregiver for my husband before he passed away, to care for my son who has special needs before he moved out of my home, and now I can go to the gym or on vacation and not worry because I can be in touch whenever and wherever. Wouldn't trade that ever!
