Take into account the background and experience of the person making the comment and realize that adults are not necessarily right about everything they say.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
My parents said "Go to college and we will support you." I went to college with $500 in my bank account. My parents did not realize that there is more needed in college than food, housing and books. I had to learn how to save and prioritize my spending.
