Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Parents:
My parents offered to pay for my college education as long as I didn't study music. They have always believed in me, but didn't really believe I could make a living as a musician. My mom in particular plays the devil's advocate in my life and challenges my big ideas and plans.
How I responded:
I used the doubts that my mom had in me as motivation to prove her wrong. I know that she wanted me to succeed, but she has always tried to temper my expectations. I wasn't supposed to pass the 6th grade, then I would never graduate high school... whatever her intentions were, it worked. I owe it to her for making me strong and determined to succeed.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
I started my business with NO MONEY! I took over a pre-existing studio and was lucky to have most of it setup, but I had no savings and at one point had to borrow $2k from my Dad to make payroll.
I was diagnosed with ADHD in High School and was medicated through college. I learned that I needed to construct my life around my limited focus and concentration and I have found that entrepreneurship is an amazing path for someone with ADHD.
I was arrested after my freshman year of college for a DUI and possession of marijuana. I spent most of college digging myself out of debt and had to deal with the repercussions of my mistakes.
