Skills & Education

Advice for getting started

It's easy to doubt yourself when you start something new. For me, it's about accepting that I'm nervous and setting out to accomplish my goals anyway. I acknowledge the voice, thank it, and tell myself that I'm still going to go. You just need to take the first step, then the second, and so on. The slogan for Fight Rope is: "Walk. Run. Jump." You have to start somewhere. It also takes a village to accomplish big goals. There are people out there who will support you and your dreams. Find them.

Here's the path I took:

  • High School

  • Bachelor's Degree

    Justice Studies

    Arizona State University

  • Associate's Degree

    Law Enforcement Technology

    Rio Salado College

  • Graduate Degree

    American/US Law/Legal Studies/Jurisprudence

    Arizona State University

Life & Career Milestones

My path in life took a while to figure out

  • 1.

After high school, I joined the Navy, where I also competed in wrestling for three of my four years.

When I got out of the military, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do but I knew I wanted to work somewhere in the field of law.

  • 4.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in justice studies from Arizona State University.

  • 5.

While working as a patrol officer for Casa Grande Police Department, I earned my associate’s degree in law enforcement technology from Rio Salado College.

  • 6.

I eventually went back to Arizona State University to earn my master’s degree in legal studies—at the same time, I moved into working on the investigations response team for Uber.

  • 7.

Throughout these transitions, I kept connections in mixed martial arts by competing as an MMA fighter myself as well as working in various administrative and instructive positions in the industry.

  • 8.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I saw an opportunity to help people get out and be active, so I created Fight Rope, a jump rope and fitness business.

How I responded to discouragement

    Messages from Myself:

What if this doesn't take off? What if no one likes it? What if I fail?

Experiences and challenges that shaped me

  • Coming out of the military was difficult. I feared the transition. I saw my friends struggling. I had nightmares recalling events from war. I had to reach out for help and was put in treatment. The more open and accepting I was, the better I felt.
