Skills & Education

Advice for getting started

Finding an internship in the field is a great way to both gain and experience and figure out which specific areas you like and don't like. I also suggest making connections with others and setting yourself up for referrals. People who are already working in the field typically will know the best companies to work for, so referrals are a great way in.

Here's the path I took:

  • High School

  • Bachelor's Degree

    Computer Science

    Messiah University

Life & Career Milestones

My path in life has been direct

  • 1.

When I was a kid, my dad would set up bulletin board systems on computers, which I found fascinating—it sparked my interest in computer science.

  • 2.

I went to college for computer science and got my first IT job while I was a junior in college.

  • 3.

After graduating, I built my career in IT, working as a consultant and security engineer.

  • 4.

As I gained experience, I learned what I did and did not like about IT, and was able to steer my career toward the things I did enjoy.

  • 5.

I had a friend who owned a cybersecurity company and hired me as his first employee—when he left to start a new company, I bought the first one from him and became my own employer.

  • 6.

Another friend joined forces with me to create Psicurity, an IT and cybersecurity company, where I currently work as the chief operations officer.

  • 7.

In addition to my work in IT, I’m also a field active member and mission coordinator for the Alpine Rescue Team.
