Advice for getting started

When I was young, I wanted to get a job at the record store at the mall. The manager told me to get in line because there were many, many others who wanted to work there. However, I had faith in myself that I would get the job. I told him that I was going to work there for free until he hired me. So I did just that. I started helping people navigate the store and find what they need—for free! I eventually got hired because of that faith and effort.

My path in life took a while to figure out

  • 1.

    I grew up in Los Angeles, California.

  • 2.

    After high school, I moved to Arizona with my brother to help him open a sandwich shop.

  • 3.

    I eventually decided to try my hand at commercial real estate and found that I was pretty good at it—I used the money I made in real estate to buy guitars and recording equipment.

  • 4.

    I started writing songs and recruiting others to record with me as a hobby.

  • 5.

    My real estate office closed during the recession and rather than try another office, I decided to try and make a career out of songwriting.

  • 6.

    I employed the lead singer of a band I wrote music for and together we built up our recording studio.

  • 7.

    The studio became bigger and more popular over time—now, The Saltmine Studio Oasis is the biggest recording studio in Arizona!
